At Cedars-Sinai Tennis Health and Science, our mission is to propel racket sport athletes to new heights on the court. Injuries can derail the enjoyment and competition in tennis, pickleball, and other racket sports, but many of these injuries are preventable. Our comprehensive approach combines basic science research and clinical studies to understand the intricacies of these sports. With this knowledge, we aim to educate medical professionals, athletic trainers, and sports professionals to enhance prevention and training methods. Tennis and pickleball have significant female participation, yet female athletes remain underrepresented in scientific research and education. Our goal is to study these athletes and identify unique aspects in racket sports to ensure they receive the recognition and support they deserve.

ResearchThe research mission of Cedars-Sinai Tennis Health and Science is to bridge the gap in understanding muscle and skeletal movement in tennis and pickleball, which remains underexplored compared to sports like baseball and golf. Utilizing a combination of basic science research, cadaveric studies, and markerless three-dimensional motion capture, we aim to uncover the intricate details of upper and lower body kinematics and their interconnections. Our goal is to enhance athletic performance while simultaneously identifying potential sources of injury. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of these movements, we seek to prevent injuries and improve the training and well-being of racket sport athletes.

Education and PreventionAt Cedars-Sinai Tennis Health and Science, our education and prevention mission is to translate our research findings into actionable strategies to prevent injuries. Using insights gained from our basic science research, we aim to identify key risk factors and develop targeted prevention methods for both high-performing tennis and pickleball athletes and recreational players. We believe that athletes, whether competitive or recreational, should spend their time on the court rather than in the doctor's office. By educating medical professionals, athletic trainers, and athletes on effective prevention techniques, we strive to keep everyone healthy, active, and able to enjoy their sport to the fullest.

Women's HealthAt Cedars-Sinai Tennis Health and Science, a core element of our mission is addressing women's health in racket sports. Despite the high participation rates of women in tennis and pickleball, there is a significant gap in scientific knowledge tailored to their specific needs. While we are committed to understanding injury patterns in all tennis athletes regardless of gender, we place a special focus on the unique aspects of the female athlete. By conducting targeted research, we aim to identify and address the distinctive factors that influence injury and performance in women. Our goal is to ensure that female athletes receive the recognition, support, and specialized care they deserve to thrive in their sports.
